For short-term prediction of preeclampsia, novel maternal serum biomarkers, such as the ratio between anti-angiogenic soluble fms-like tyrosine kinase-1 (sFlt-1) and PlGF taken between 18+0 and 36+6 weeks of gestation were found suitable to identify pregnant women with PE symptoms who require hospitalisation and women who can safely be monitored as outpatients [35]. This evidence concerns the gene FLT1 and preeclampsia.
