Stratified analysis of those with HE depicted 33 (45%) males with a MELD-Na score of 15.5 ± 6.3, mean albumin level of 3.35 ± 0.6 g/dL, and overall etiology of cirrhosis including NASH cirrhosis (44%), alcoholic cirrhosis (30%), hepatitis B or C alone or in combination with alcohol (13%) and other (15%). This evidence concerns the gene ALB and hepatitis B virus infection.
