Western blot analysis revealed that the stroke insult led to a marked increase of oxidative damage levels, indicated by 4-hydroxy-2-nonenal (4-HNE)-modified proteins and GP91phox-containing NADPH oxidase (NOX2), and decrease of antioxidative enzyme levels, indicated by superoxide dismutase 2 (SOD2) and glutathione peroxidase 1 (GPX1). This evidence concerns the gene SOD2 and stroke disorder.
