Recombinant activated protein C (APC, trade name Xigris, Eli Lilly) as severe sepsis treatment, with known anti‐coagulant, anti‐inflammatory, and fibrinolytic properties,[8] has a very short half‐life of ≈30 min in citrated blood and 15–18 min in whole blood.[9] APC is rapidly eliminated from the blood and thus, timely or frequent administration is required to achieve a steady‐state dose. This evidence concerns the gene APC and Sepsis.
