ALDH2 and esophageal squamous cell carcinoma: The results from a case-control study of 120 HN cancer and 138 ESCC patients in Taiwan demonstrated that the minor alleles of ADHB (rs1229984) and ALDH2 (rs671) were associated with an increased risk of UADT cancers (OR, 3.53 and 2.59; 95% CI, 2.14~5.80 and 1.79~3.75), and also that they potentiated the carcinogenic effects of alcohol (OR, 53.44 and 70.08; 95% CI, 25.21~113.29 and 33.65~145.95) (19).
