The Beclin-1 autophagy gene, a haploinsufficient tumor-suppressor protein, which is monoallelially deleted in breast, ovarian, and prostate cancers [96,97], and the Beclin-1 complex-binding proteins, such as the gene-associated protein resistance to UV radiation (UVRAG) and interaction factor with Bax-1 (Bif-1), may also act as tumor suppressors [98]. The gene discussed is BECN1; the disease is Familial prostate cancer.
