One possible underlying mechanism of obesity-induced inflammation is the activation of toll-like receptors (TLRs) of the innate immune system in obese patients, particularly TLR4, which involves the activation of transcription factors such as nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) and the production of pro-inflammatory markers [18,19]. Here, TLR4 is linked to obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
