The upper subset of Figure 1 included a group of patients with higher age (median age 56 versus 48 years, Mann–Whitney U test, p = 0.031) and increased frequencies of patients showing increased CRP levels (16 versus 4 patients, Fisher’s exact test, p = 0.0004) and preleukemic MDS (12 versus 3 patients, p = 0.0054). The gene discussed is CRP; the disease is myelodysplastic syndrome.
