Although polymorphisms in NLRP3 inflammasome-related genes, including NLRP3, CARD-8, IL-1β, and IL-18, correlate with susceptibility, prognosis, and overall survival in different types of cancer [80,81,82,83,84,85,86], the precise function of the NLRP3 inflammasome in cancer appears to be context-dependent, as it can exert both anti- and pro-tumorigenic effects [87,88]. The gene discussed is IL18; the disease is cancer.
