Since the association of either HBP and NGAL in CSF with S100B in blood (model 1), or only the HBP value in CSF with S100B in blood (model 2) generated similar AUC values (0.904 vs. 0.908), it is clear that the finest predictors of bacterial meningitis among the newly investigated biomarkers would be the CSF levels of HBF and blood levels of S100B. This evidence concerns the gene LCN2 and bacterial meningitis.
