Altered intestinal inflammation is a key component of EED and our transcriptional analysis revealed that genes encoding key inflammatory marker proteins, such as lipocalin 2 (LCN2) and regenerating islet-derived protein 3 alpha (REG3A), were upregulated when EED or healthy chips were exposed to nutritional deficiency (Fig. 1c and Extended Data Fig. 3). This evidence concerns the gene REG3A and nutritional deficiency disease.
