In control medium, enterocyte markers were expressed at lower levels in EED chips compared with healthy chips (in particular, MME, APOB and MTTP were reduced by 15-fold, 2.7-fold and 2.3-fold, respectively) and were even more broadly downregulated in EED chips that were exposed to nutritional deficiency (in particular, PCK1, MEP1B and CREB3L3 were decreased by 7.7-fold, 6.2-fold and 4.9-fold, respectively; Supplementary Fig. 3 and Table 3). This evidence concerns the gene MME and nutritional deficiency disease.
