In this case, a decision was made to disclose this finding to the family, in addition to the origin of the DHH, for two reasons: (1) DIS is a recognized heritable deafness syndrome including infertility in males, and (2) the contiguous STRC/CATSPER2 deletion would be revealed to the family upon clinical validation of the research result.
