The unmethylated CpG island of SOCS-1 was also quantified to calculate the percentage of methylated SOCS-1 CpG island through a formula “Relative quantification of methylated CpG island/(relative quantification of methylated CpG island + relative quantification of unmethylated CpG island).” When the methylation level of host genes in cancer tissues was analyzed, it is slightly but significantly higher than that in the non-cancer tissues (adjacent and distal tissues) (42.0 vs. 41.4% and 41.3%) (Figure 5B). The gene discussed is SOCS1; the disease is cancer.
