Upon activation of the hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal (HPA) axis, glucocorticoids are synthesized, secreted, and combined to the glucocorticoid receptor and could activate multiple downstream processes involved in breast cancer progression, including cell adhesion, inflammation, chemoresistance, evasion of apoptosis, and angiogenesis [8–11]. This evidence concerns the gene NR3C1 and breast carcinoma.
