LOX and diabetes mellitus: The 12/15-LOX enzymes react with polyunsaturated fatty acids producing active lipid metabolites that are involved in diabetic complications, such as neurological disorders (Li et al., 2019), retinopathy (Elmasry et al., 2018), while the 12/15-LOX pathway inhibitor was found to attenuate the kidney histopathological changes and renal injury induced by diabetes (Gad, 2012).
