In colorectal cancers: 1) a cytokinesis-related gene Septin9 was identified highly correlated with the occurrence and development of colorectal cancer (Tanaka et al., 2002) and DNA methylation is the main mechanism regulating Septin9 gene expression (Sellin et al., 2011; Connolly et al., 2011), which mediates cytokinesis failure, leading to aneuploidy, centrosome amplification, and multipolar mitosis, eventually cause cell division and carcinogenesis (Sun et al., 2019; Cortez et al., 2016). The gene discussed is SEPTIN9; the disease is colorectal cancer.
