ABCB1 and leukemia: In leukemia, this novel compound follows diverse pathways, among them are enhancement of cytotoxic activity, induction of the apoptotic pathway, initiation of promoters mediating DNA damage, reduction of the telomerase enzyme activity, decrease of mdr-1 via blocking Topo II, repression of the activation of the transcription factor c-Jun, and production of the ROS moiety involved in cell death with P-glycoprotein (P-gp) activity reduction (58–64).
