In this study, we revealed that ESR2 high suppression rates in monoclonal shERβ MDA-MB-231 cells decreased the mRNA levels of MMP7 and MMP14, 70% and 55%, respectively, as compared to the highly invasive MDA-MB-231 cells (Figure 5A), whereas it led to a 3-fold increase in MMP9 levels (Figure 5A), an epithelial-derived MMP that acts as tumor suppressor in many types of cancer (38, 39).
