Interestingly, preventing glomerular NLRP3 inflammasome activation by specific decrease in mitochondrial reactive oxygen species (ROS) by mitochondria-targeting antioxidant Mito-TEMPO can improve nephropathy in diabetic mice [11], suggesting that the NLRP3 inflammasome is a potential target in the treatment of metabolic inflammatory diseases, including renal injury in diabetes. Here, NLRP3 is linked to kidney disorder.
