In the context of IBD this modulation of the non-canonical inflammasome may be of clinical importance as UC patients have lower Gpx8 and higher CASP4 expression ratios in the colon when compared to controls suggesting that GPx8 protects against coilitis by acting as a negative regulator of caspase-4/-11 (Hsu et al., 2020). The gene discussed is CASP4; the disease is inflammatory bowel disease.
