Previously, we demonstrated that HMGB1 and necroptosis proteins are upregulated in two preclinical models of bronchiolitis (Simpson et al., 2017; Simpson et al., 2020) and that RSV infection of human airway epithelial cells (hAECs) induces necroptosis at 24 h post infection (hpi), leading to the release of HMGB1 (Simpson et al., 2020).
