ITGAM and infection: This was associated with elevated CD11b (a marker of microglia or macrophages) levels in microglia for more than 1 week after LPS administration (E. coli LPS: 170.16 ± 3.99%, E. coli LPS vs. Veh: p < 0.0001), indicating that microglia were not affected until 63 days after infection by hippocampal CA 3 synapses involved in the loss of synapses (Manabe et al., 2021).
