While some of these studies may be complicated by the stimuli used to induce NETosis in the different studies [133,134], in vivo experiments that examined the role of PADI4 in NETosis associated with bacterial infection, diabetes, sepsis and cancer, among others, show that PADI4 inhibition interferes with the ability of neutrophils to release NETs [118,135,136]. The gene discussed is PADI4; the disease is bacterial infectious disease.
