Compared with the control group (PBS + water), the mice in the DSS-treated group (PBS + 3% DSS) showed a series of symptoms of IBD, such as weight loss, increased disease activity index (DAI), colon shortening, and damage, together with enhanced myeloperoxidase (MPO) activity, indicating that the IBD model was successfully established in C57BL/6 mice (Fig. 3).
