Patients with severe thrombocytopenia displayed significantly higher expression levels of MLKL and Beclin-1 than those who had moderate thrombocytopenia, indicating a causal role of both necroptosis and autophagy markers in the development of thrombocytopenia in ITP patients and confirming that ITP severity is driven by several mechanisms. This evidence concerns the gene BECN1 and autoimmune thrombocytopenic purpura.
