In a recent study (Hradicka et al., 2020), a mix of lactobacilli strains were shown to increase the level of interleukin 18 in colorectal cancer (CRC) cells, which is recognized as an important cytokine for homeostasis of the gut epithelial cells and prevention of CRC progression (Mager et al., 2016). Here, IL18 is linked to colorectal carcinoma.
