The downregulation of several key genes encoding subunits of cardiac ion channels we observed such as KCNQ1, KCNH2, and CACNA1C, is in line with findings that show QT prolongation and torsade de pointes in patients treated with protease inhibitors (PI) (49), such as lopinavir and ritonavir. The gene discussed is CACNA1C; the disease is torsades de pointes.
