These 36 genes were enriched in gene ontology (GO) functions and biological pathways pertaining to ‘insulin resistance’ (P = 0.016; GFPT2, PTPRF), ’insulin signaling pathway’ (P = 0.03; SHC2, PTPRF), and ‘apelin signaling pathway’ (P = 0.02; SLC8A3, MYLK), indicating that changes in the methylation status of the candidate genes play important roles in regulating insulin-related functions. Here, INS is linked to Insulin resistance.
