,25 A number of agents, including naturally occurring dietary compounds, are known to be potent inducers of UPD-glucuronosyltransferases and other phase II enzymes.26, 27, 28 There are encouraging examples of targeting specific enzymes of phase II metabolism in other conditions of endogenous compound accumulation, including UDP-glucuronosyltransferase 1A1 in neonatal hyperbilirubinaemia29 and sulfotransferases in oestrogen-dependent breast cancer.30 Here, UGT1A1 is linked to breast carcinoma.
