The rationale for the study was to determine whether the previous attenuation of plasma ANXA1 in human obesity [15] could be reversed by weight loss (Bariatric surgery study) and to determine whether adiposity per se was the cause of the attenuation in plasma ANXA1 or whether the inflammation associated with rising adiposity is the cause (Lipodystrophy patient data). Here, ANXA1 is linked to obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
