Even if a non-obesity prone mouse strain was used in this work (NMRI mice), the HFD regimen applied (10 weeks duration, 45% calories as fat) did increase body weight, adiposity, and leptinemia (Supplementary Table S1 and [27]), as well as (this work) muscle triacylglycerol content and the degree of liver steatosis in our control mice, although it failed to alter insulin sensitivity or glucose control [27]. The gene discussed is INS; the disease is obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
