The specific hypotheses of our study are that alexithymic HD patients suffer more from daytime sleepiness and depression; have lower sleep quality; increased levels of serum phosphorus, leukocytes, CRP, and interdialytic weight gain than non-alexithymic HD patients; and that alexithymia is an independent predictor of excessive daytime sleepiness in HD patients. The gene discussed is CRP; the disease is Huntington disease.
