Ran and colleagues showed that breast tumors acquire a pro-metastatic phenotype upon Paclitaxel administration and that is mediated by Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4), which promotes the release of inflammatory cytokines, including IL10, IL6 and IL1β, which on their turn stimulate the formation of lymphatic vessels in close proximity to the tumor; this is considered a putative path of metastasis spreading [215]. This evidence concerns the gene TLR4 and neoplasm.
