The latest meta-analysis of 33 randomized controlled trials including 21 with statins and 12 with proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9) inhibitors shows that statins but not PCSK9 inhibitors are associated with the risk of incident diabetes [42], suggesting that the action of statins on diabetes is independent of reductions in non-HDL cholesterol levels.
