When the entire group of obese study participants was divided into subgroups according to their glucose tolerance statuses (Figure 4a), the ESR1 mRNA levels were found to be significantly lower in the SAT of the obese subjects with type 2 diabetes and prediabetes (DM) compared with those with normal glucose levels (NDM, p = 0.016). The gene discussed is ESR1; the disease is type 2 diabetes mellitus.
