Using a mouse model prone to atherosclerosis [59] (LDLr-KO mouse) and fed a high fat diet, and by performing a partial ligation of both the left internal and external carotid arteries as previously described [101], a strong decrease in intimal lesions was shown to occur in the mice with endothelial-specific deficiency for Piezo1, P2Y2, or Gαq/Gα11 compared to control LDLr-KO mice.
