IBD is an immune-mediated disease that is currently treated with 5-aminosalicylic acid, corticosteroids, immunosuppressants, and biological agents (including monoclonal antibody inhibitors of tumor necrosis factor (TNF) alpha and interleukin 12/23, integrins and small molecules such as Janus kinase (JAK) inhibitors).
