In contrast with participants without NAFLD, patients with NAFLD were more likely to be older, men, non-Hispanic white, with hypertension, using statins, and of higher BMI, blood pressure, total cholesterol, triglyceride, glycohemoglobin, LDL-C, liver enzymes, uric acid, fast glucose, and serum creatinine levels; patients with NAFLD were also more likely to have lower serum albumin levels (P < 0.05). The gene discussed is ALB; the disease is metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease.
