Increased expression of NLRP3 and caspase-1 genes in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) and elevated protein levels of NLRP3, caspase-1, and IL-1B in the blood plasma were found to correlate with PD severity (40), further supporting the perception of PD as a chronic systemic inflammatory disease. This evidence concerns the gene NLRP3 and Parkinson disease.
