Previous studies have indicated that oral pathogens may affect the expression of IL-17 in the gut (du Teil Espina et al., 2019; Feng et al., 2020; Kitamoto et al., 2020) and that IL-17-producing cells in the gut are closely associated with inflammatory response after ischemic stroke (Benakis et al., 2016).
