Since tau oligomers are disease‐specific and are likely involved in the neurotoxicity and pathogenesis of tauopathies (Lasagna‐Reeves et al., 2010; Patterson et al., 2011), our findings demonstrated a key role for p62 in the modulating accumulation of tau oligomers and the neurodegeneration associated with these forms of tau. The gene discussed is SQSTM1; the disease is tauopathy.
