CXCL10 and bacterial vaginosis: Echoing findings from a study examining the immune effect of standard bacterial vaginosis therapy,11 secondary analysis showed an increase in vaginal concentrations of IP-10 (a chemoattractant chemokine linked to increased risk of HIV acquisition in women) after successful bacterial vaginosis treatment.9,23 These sustained genital immune effects were primarily mediated by a reduced abundance of bacterial vaginosis-associated taxa, particularly Prevotella spp and Megasphaera spp, and to a lesser extent by an elevated abundance of L crispatus.
