LDLR and atherosclerosis: A recently published paper written by Haversen et al. showed that loss of vimentin increased macrophage surface CD36 expression in vitro, however, reduced atherosclerosis in two animal models including LDL receptor null (LDLR–/–) mice reconstituted with vimentin null (Vim–/–) bone marrow and Vim–/– mouse injected with PCSK9 gain-of-function virus (29).
