The exact aetiology of growth failure remains unknown, although many different causes have been proposed: i) poor appetite and difficulties in swallowing; ii) nocturnal hypoxemia and respiratory acidosis; iii) increased caloric expenditure caused by increased work of breathing during sleep and iv) sleep fragmentation and impairment of GH-IGF1 axis (8,9,29-31). This evidence concerns the gene GH1 and Growth delay.
