Decreased expression of PHACTR1 mRNA with no change in endothelin-1 mRNA was observed in isogenic iPSC-derived endothelial cells carrying the rs9349379 CAD-risk allele.12 The rs9349379 CAD-risk allele (GG) was also shown to be associated with reduced PHACTR1 expression in the aorta, tibia, and coronary artery.4,12 In addition, this variant was also shown to alter binding of myocyte enhancer factor-2 (MEF2).
