In squamous lung cell cancer, for example, stromal TAMs have been shown to interact with stromal CD8+ cells, and this interaction results in a reduction in motility of CD8+ cells in the tumour microenvironment, ‘trapping’ them in the stroma and contributing to a T‐cell excluded tumour phenotype associated with worse outcome [9]. The gene discussed is CD8A; the disease is squamous cell lung carcinoma.
