Notably, using orthotopic model of cSCC, Katarkar and colleagues have shown that genetic silencing or pharmacological inhibition of NOTCH1 in CAFs suppressed orthotopic cSCC tumor growth, suggesting that NOTCH1 in the CAF compartment of the tumor stroma is a potentially useful target for stroma-centered anti-cSCC therapy (186). The gene discussed is NOTCH1; the disease is skin squamous cell carcinoma.
