As shown in Figure 8A–D, the number of neutrophils (MPO for biomarker of the neutrophil) and macrophage (CD68 for biomarker of the macrophages) infiltrations into the injured myocardium was significantly higher in the MI/RI group when compared to those in the Sham group (8.53 ± 1.34 vs 49.08 ± 4.86 and 3.09 ± 1.37 vs 47.58 ± 3.73, respectively, p < 0.001). This evidence concerns the gene MPO and myocardial infarction.
