As shown in Figure 8, although BC significantly increases S. aureus LAC adhesion to A549 cells (Figure 8A, p < 0.05), neither the agrB nor sae mutants showed significant changes in adhesion compared to the wild type in the presence or absence of BC (Figure 8A), although the agr mutant shows a small decrease in the response compared to LAC and the sae mutant.
