Although natural experimental studies have found evidence of increased smoking and drinking after receiving relatively large sums of money such as lottery winnings or annual casino profits [34, 35], there is also evidence of improvement in other health outcomes after receiving either larger or smaller sums of money, including improvements in IL-6, CRP,[21] cognitive function, heart rate, blood pressure levels [36], obesity, diabetes [37], and mental health [38].
